After the kitchen closed
Closing was part of the promise.
The last evening
The notice had always included an end. On the last night the pot was the same size as the first. People were told where the weekly table would be, and that it would not pretend to be a winter emergency. It would just be Thursday.
What people kept
Not the menu. The knowledge of who would be in the room. A woman who had come for the heat stayed for the company and said so, plainly, which saved us from writing a grander reason.
A fund that stopped
The appeal closed with the season. Money left over moved to the weekly table and was described as such. A finished program should not keep a donate button out of habit.
Why tell it
So the site can show an ending. Charities are easier to trust when their past work has a last page, and when that page says where the living part of it went.
These narratives are written for the demonstration. They describe the kind of work Aleria is built to hold. Names are composite. They are not case studies of real individuals.
